“An Ear for Music” – Illustrated Talk and Recital by Mark Austin.

Mark Austin is a British opera conductor with a reputation for brilliant musicianship and insightful programming. He has a talent and passion for communicating with audiences. He played in the National Youth Orchestra as a violinist, studied modern languages at Cambridge University and piano at the Royal Academy of Music, where he held a Junior Fellowship in the opera department. He was awarded an International Opera Awards Bursary in 2017. He is founder and director of the Faust Chamber Orchestra, and has performed at such diverse venues as Kings Place, LSO, St Luke’s, St John’s Smith Square, Wigmore Hall and Leighton House. Mark is also a regular performer and lecturer for Opera Prelude and returns to Grange Festival in 2018 as assistant conductor.
The London Ladies Club are delighted to have secured his expertise for an engaging evening of music, ideas and entertainment to be held in the impressive Lloyd George Room at the National Liberal Club. Mark will explore how to listen to music and opera with greater understanding and enjoyment, illustrated at the piano and with excerpts performed by another Opera Prelude regular, baritone Ed Ballard. Wine and canapés will be served during the interval, followed by a complete recital of the arias and songs illustrated during the talk. The evening features some of the greatest songs and arias by Purcell, Handel, Mozart, Schubert, Schumann, Massenet and Verdi amongst others and is perfect for listeners who enjoy live performances and seek a closer relationship to music. 6.30 pm to 8.30 pm.
