“A Sigh Becomes Song – Transforming Emotion” – BAREFOOT OPERA and Opera Prelude’s young singers
June 6 @ 10:30 am - 12:30 pm
Jenny Miller, singer, director and founder of Barefoot Opera, returns to Opera Preludes to demonstrate the close relationship between instinct, emotional responses, everyday communication and the art of classical singing. With two brilliant young Opera Prelude singers, Jenny will take us through operatic examples from Monteverdi, Purcell, Mozart, Verdi and more to the present time, demonstrating how sighs, laughter, cries, and whispers translate into the gripping music-theatre that is the art of opera.
Join us for a glass of wine after the event to celebrate the end of our Summer Season!
Barefoot Opera is a Hastings based company aiming to change perceptions about opera from the ground up, for both performers and audiences. Jenny Miller founded the company after many years of working in the field as an opera singer, director and trainer:
“My mother was a dancer which was a big influence for me. I have always felt that a classical singer is three things, an instrumentalist, an actor and a dancer combined. I wanted to create a vehicle for training singers with this philosophy in mind, so have established a team and a company which is Barefoot Opera”.
Expect opera that is fresh, direct and unpretentious, fantastic singing with great movement and drama. The performers are more likely to be in denim than in diamonds and can appear in a cabaret night, a local pub or a beautiful landmark venue. Barefoot Opera tours to London and other venues in the South east.
Barefoot Opera conducts training courses at all levels and can be contacted via the web: www.barefootopera.com
